I stand in complete silence, my hands in front of me one overlapping the other, both twitching in nervousness. Though erect my knees are buckling beneath me as sweat lightly beads upon my forehead. The uniform in which I am dressed is pressed to perfection. The ribbons perfectly aligned, each medal hanging with pride in its rightful place. The dark blue top form fitting, the royal blue bottoms with their ever meaningful red stripe down the side creased to kill, the white gloves knuckle tight, and the black shoes reflecting every image about the room.
I hear it...at first it is but a chime, it feels as though a dream has began as all around stand and turn to see that which will momentarily enter the large cedar doors. The door gracefully is opened and all lay eyes upon the one with whom my soul is intertwined. She steps forward elegantly, a light veil hiding the face I am to stare at for all of eternity with great passion swelling within me. Her dress conforms perfectly to the curvature of her body giving way to her benevolent beauty, the shades of white almost glowing against the room with angelic radiance as she did slowly come down the aisle closer to my position. I swallowed hard taking in the moment, basking in the glory of this miraculous event that would mark the beginning of forever.
I peered upon her veil trying to penetrate it as best I could, her smile beaming, her eyes sparkling, she was indeed the one...my one and only. As she reached me and passed off her bouquet so that our hands could join and tremble with excitement together, my heart stopped. I know not how many beats my heart did miss as we stood there lost in each others eyes, as the preacher spoke words that bounced off my momentarily deafened ears, as a slide show of precious moments to come raced through my mind. I do know the tears that soaked our eyes as our vows passed through loving lips, I do know how weightless my body felt as I seemingly floated in place before the alter, I do know the joy that overtook me as that ring was slipped upon my finger, and I do know that time did halt and the heavens did grow silent as our sealing kiss did produce a new definition of love.
All around our family and friends erupted in celebration, the happiness of the moment evident on all faces throughout the room, yet we heard not a whisper and saw not a grin. For there we stood still completely lost in the moment. My mouth quivered as I spoke those words to which I had before felt but was now overwhelmed...In perfect harmony our mouths did part and the words I Love You poured from the greatest depths of our innards. With those words did our stories intertwine forever and always, with those words did the words happily ever after appear on the bottom line of the last page of a book with many blank white pages of which we are to fill, and with those words did the story that is to echo through the centuries take flight amongst the stars.
